Door Hardware

by msecadm4921

At a new student residence at the University of Leeds, a master-keying system services 500 bedrooms using 700 keys, linked through 80 individually programmed sub-suites.

The hardware to operate the system is the RS5 door cylinder from DOM UK, part of the Black & Decker Group. The cylinder provides flexibility, the makers claim, which is essential where there is a mix of requirements, and changing occupancy. The door cylinder can be lockable from both sides, as well as universal for fitting to any thickness of door. It can be retro-fitted, expanded or removed, according to the manufacturers. Mechanical and electronic performance can be combined with the addition of an electronic transponder clipped to the key. The cylinder is available in various colours and finishes. For example, 150 cylinders in polished brass have been supplied for the conversion of a grade two listed former mental health hospital in Wakefield into apartments.
