A new website – www.colchester-community-safety.org.uk – is co-ordinated by Colchester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CCDRP) and supported by police in Colchester.
CCDRP coordinator Peter Carrington said: “Colchester CDRP website is thought to have the most comprehensive range of crime reduction and community safety information of any CDRP website in England.
“The website is bursting full of personal safety and crime prevention information and also charts what the CDRP is doing to tackle local important issues such as anti-social behaviour.”
The website will also detail CCDRP news and successes as well as information on how to bid for funding and help for community and crime-fighting projects.
At the heart of the organisation’s work are the new Neighbourhood Action Panels which were first set up in the summer of 2006.
The website will be used as a vehicle to promote the role and function of the district’s 15 panels in resolving local quality of life issues or crime reduction priorities for communities.
Essex County Council Coordinator for east Essex external relations and partnerships, Jane Gardner, said: “The CDRP is the core umbrella organisation for bringing partner agencies together to reduce crime and create a safer Colchester. The CDRP set a brief to have the most comprehensive and informative crime reduction partnership website and I think it has achieved that brief.
“The CDRP believes it is vital to improve our communications with the all residents, businesses, students, pupils and visitors regardless of age, gender, race etc. and this website can only support that goal.”
Eastern Division commander Chief Supt Dave Hudson said: “Reducing crime is not just about enforcement but also about giving residents, students, pupils and visitors of Colchester the information to increase their sense of safety and reduce crime. The police are at the core of providing crime reduction advice and the CDRP website extends the opportunity to reach out to as many people and their families as possible in Colchester.”
