Cameras in Castleford and the villages of Hemsworth and South Emsall in the Metropolitan Borough of Wakfield have had a regenerative effect on the former mining area, cutting car crime. Wakefield CCTV superviser Darren Pollington says: ?Car parks were simply not safe and wre always being targeted by theives. We believe CCTV is stamping it out.? Pontefract cameras come on line next year. JVC cameras have been installed in the Wakfield system from the start. Nottingham-based installer Quadrant have used TK-C1380s in the main system, besides TIS Mansfield, who installed the latest phase of the operation in Cas. David Caborn, a Wakefield council engineer, says the system covers car parks, underpasses, shopping centre and streets and is linked to an alarm system covering major schools: ?We collect all information locally from the cameras and feed it via fibre optics back to the central control room at Wakefield which has doubled in size sincit first came on line. The pictures from the JVC cameras are brilliant. The police have succeeded with many prosecutions using our tapes as evidence.? Yash Patel, Senior Director of Sales and Marketing at JVC, said: ?The police have been particularly pleased with the picture quality on this system.?
