Singapore infosec office

by Mark Rowe

The UK-based cyber defence company, MWR InfoSecurity, is adding an operation in Singapore. The firm says it’s to meet the growing demand for specialist cyber security consultancy in the Asia Pacific region and further develop its research. MWR will provide advisory and security assurance services to clients in areas including mobile banking, payments, attack detection and incident response.

Ian Shaw, CEO of MWR, said: “MWR is extremely pleased to announce the latest expansion into the Asia Pacific region. Singapore is a world-class financial hub, as well a regional headquarters for many businesses. It provides us with a unique opportunity to not only develop our business and take advantage of the maturity of the market, but also bring in a number local specialists from the area. The threats faced by businesses operating in Singapore are not unique to the rest of the world and as a leader in Cyber Defence, we work very closely with our clients to improve their cyber security means and defences.”

Earlier this year, the Singapore Government outlined steps to improve education and training in cyber security with the launch by Singapore Polytechnic of a Cyber Security Academy and the opening by policing body INTERPOL of a Global Complex for Innovation that will provide a R&D lab, training facility and forensics lab to combat cyber crime.

Hennie Troskie, Account Director for Singapore at MWR InfoSecurity, will head the new location. Hennie said: “The Singapore Government is taking great steps to improve its cyber security posture and many businesses are upgrading their defence capabilities. MWR will be well placed to insert itself into the picture, providing quality consultancy, training and research on the latest threats to business, governments and infrastructure.”
