London counter-terror offer

by Mark Rowe

Townscape Products is offering free, no obligation security assessments for protecting commercial buildings in the City of London from terrorism.

After recent spate of attacks on the Continent, the Met Police are working on providing 600 extra, visible armed officers in the city.

According to Nottinghamshire-based Townscape Products, which has designed, manufactured and installed counter terror physical security products for a number of London locations including 20 Fenchurch Street and outside the Tower of London (pictured) – simple perimeter security tweaks can cover threats.

Jonathan Goss, managing director at Townscape Products, said: “With real worries that the kind of terrorist atrocities witnessed over on the continent are imminently likely to occur here in the UK – real efforts are being made to ramp up security. This focus is absolutely right, but all too often the focus rests too heavily on rapid response, containment and personnel – not visible, physical deterrents that could help to protect people and buildings of this fantastic City from threats such as vehicle borne attack.”

The firm describes its Counter Terror blocks as effective at preventing attacks on commercial office buildings and shopping complexes. They can stop a 7.5 tonne truck travelling at 40 mph in its tracks. Blocks can be designed with seating; or to act as an obvious visible deterrent. With bollards rated to the PAS 68 standard they deliver perimeter protection.

Jonathan adds: “Here at Townscape, we are keen to do absolutely anything we can to minimise the chances of an attack on British soil which is why we want to speak to anybody responsible for securing commercial buildings in the city. It is critical to continually assess current risk levels and explore how to boost external security so we are happy to chat on a free and friendly basis about how this can be done quickly and effectively.”
