Insurance broker for demining, post-conflict security

by Mark Rowe

An insurance broker has launched a specialist division to deliver bespoke insurance to those involved in demining and post-conflict security. Part of Bridge Insurance Brokers Limited, Bridge Specialist Risks will provide cover for commercial contractors, non-government organisations and charities working on mining clearance projects and delivering security and post conflict operations in hazardous areas. It will also cover organisations involved in specialist marine operations.

The new division will develop insurance on a bespoke basis, the firm adds. Roger Potts, Chairman of Bridge, said: “We have been providing risk advice to corporations for more than 40 years and understand the challenges facing organisations working in hostile environments and on activities which expose them to unusual risks which many western companies and insurers never have to consider. These organisations are carrying out crucial, life threatening work and need personalised protection. Bridge Specialist Risks has evolved as a result of our insight, experience and expertise in this highly specialised sector and we are committed to providing unique cover so they can continue the lifesaving work they have been brought in to do.”

Areas of cover will include: kidnap and ransom, combined liability, personal accident and illnesses, specialist medical evacuation, trustees liability business interruption, specialist equipment, Defense Base Act placements and subsea equipment. Due to the speed at which international situations can arise the company says that it will be able to provide assessments and insurance placements within a short, limited timeframe.

Bridge is a member of BrokersLink, a broker partnership, and will work with fellow members in developing countries.
