Consec 2014

by Mark Rowe

Securing Business, Protecting the Future is the title of Consec 2014, the annual conference and exhibition of the Association of Security Consultants (ASC). The event runs on Thursday, October 2, as last year (pictured) at Heathrow in west London, at the London Heathrow Marriott Hotel on Bath Road; postcode UB3 5AN.

After a welcome by ASC chairman Allan Hildage, an opening keynote talk is by Professor Michael Clarke, Director General of the defence and security think-tank the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), giving his risk-assessment of global security. Other morning speakers are Dr Tristram Riley Smith, of Cambridge University; Paul Easter, Harquebus Ltd, the former British Army man and 2014 Imbert Prize winner, on ‘terrorists and technology’; and Sue Seaby, speaking to ‘Securing the Boundaries, Understanding the Threat’.

After the buffet lunch, afternoon speakers are Jane Attwood, John Taylor International Partnership, on the recent LCCI cyber crime survey; and Di Thomas of the Security Institute, on the Chartered Security Professional qualification; and last but not least Stephen Phipson, Director Security Sector Engagement, at the Home Office, on UK security sector exports.

Chairing the day is Elizabeth France, appointed early this year as chairman of the regulator the Security Industry Authority (SIA). For more details visit the ASC website or ring 01636 643959; or email [email protected].

The conference is sponsored by the CCTV firm Vista, and the drinks and dinner are sponsored by the multi-national services contractor Sodexo. At the evening dinner the annual Women in Security awards will be announced, and presented.

Vista and Sodexo are among exhibitors showcasing their products in an exclusive exhibition, as last year in the refreshment area by the conference hall.
