ASC near 25th anniversary

by Mark Rowe

The Association of Security Consultants (ASC) enjoyed their annual dinner at the House of Lords on December 11, pictured. Their host was the former senior policeman Lord Mackenzie of Framwellgate.

The physical security product manufacturer Gunnebo UK Ltd again sponsored the black-tie event, attended by directors and members of the ASC with their industry and personal guests and friends.

The event provided the opportunity for Lord Mackenzie, a long-term patron of the ASC, to welcome Sir Hugh Orde as an ASC patron; others include the former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lord Peter Imbert (also an editorial board member of Professional Security magazine), Lord James Bethell, and Air Chief Marshall Sir Stuart Peach Vice Chief of Defence Staff.

Joe Connell, Chair of the ASC says: ‘The involvement of Sir Hugh Orde as a patron of the ASC is particularly welcome. Sir Hugh earned great credit for his no-nonsense style of police leadership. Following a senior career in the Metropolitan Police in London he went on to lead the Police Service of Northern Ireland as its Chief Officer during its crucial formative years. More recently, as Chief Constable he led the Association of Chief Police Officers representing over 300 of the UK’s most senior police ranks at a time when police resources were being severely cut. His frankness and integrity during this process are broadly admired.

“I am sure Sir Hugh will make a valuable contribution to the ASC as the debate continues regarding public and private responsibilities for the provision of safety and security in an environment of shrinking public resources.”

The year 2016 sees the ASC celebrating its 25th anniversary and the association’s event team are already at work creating another line up of events which include its seasonal CPD credit-earning Business Group Learning and Networking events, at a new venue; CONSEC 2016, its annual autumn conference and exhibition; and its dining and networking events which include the Imbert Awards Luncheon at the Royal Air Force Club in central London each summer, the House of Lords Dinner and an event in 2016 to mark those first 25 years.

Roger Noakes, Vice Chairman and Lead Director for ASC Events says: ‘All these events are open to every ASC member and to friends and supporters of the ASC. They offer great networking opportunities and most of them are free to our members. We hope to see more members at next year’s events and we highly recommend bringing guests – these events offer great value when you consider the contacts to be made and the venues and fellow guests to be enjoyed.”
