Birmingham hospital contract

by Mark Rowe

The FM (facilities management) contract firm OCS has a three-year contract to provide security and car park services to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The contract, which began on November 1, will run for three years plus an extension option. It will see the security contractor provide a presence in and around the hospital and deal with anything from deterring crime, to offering customer service. Car park management will form a large part of the role.

Security staff will be transferred under TUPE from the outgoing contractor to OCS to work alongside the OCS security management team, the mobile supervision team and an extra OCS security officer.

Jane Sheard, UK Managing Director of Facilities Services at OCS, said: “The OCS team is dedicated to providing a high quality service and a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors and staff. Our continued focus is on the development of our highly trained staff and on providing a pro-active, innovative service in partnership with the hospital’s facilities team.”

The procurement process was managed by HealthTrust Europe, a group purchasing organisation used by various hospital trusts. Under the same framework, OCS was awarded the security contract for Sandwell PCT last year.
The contractor adds that it has contracts with the children’s hospitals Great Ormond Street and Alder Hey.
