Policing Vision 2025 launched

by Mark Rowe

Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) and the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) in consultation with the College of Policing, National Crime Agency, staff associations and others, have brought out Policing Vision 2025.

For example, part of the ‘mission’ will be to reduce crime and protecting the vulnerable are core priorities for the police service. ‘To achieve this, the service must increase partnerships within the community and with other service providers, protect the rights of victims and engage community-led policing to reduce demand.’ And as for the private sector, the document speaks of ‘transformation’ inside the police that must inspire officers, staff and volunteers and develop the flexibility, capability and inclusivity required to adapt to change. ‘Services will be offered at national, cross force and local level, integrated and strengthened, where appropriate, by collaboration with partners from the public, private and third sectors.’

What they say

National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) chair Sara Thornton said: “Over the last 12 months, police chiefs and PCCs have worked together to think carefully about the next stage of police reform and the changes that are needed to improve policing for the public. We have focused on five areas of change, which collectively will make us better at fighting crime and protecting people in a cost-effective way. We are now getting to work to make these important changes happen. ”

And the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners Chair Vera Baird QC said: “Police and Crime Commissioners are focused on ensuring that transformational change in policing is delivered, with local policing and accountability to the public very much at the core. People want a responsive service that is able to tackle the future challenges and embrace the future opportunities of policing. This Vision sets out how the service needs to use technology to make it easier for the public to interact with the police, how it needs to attract and retain a confident and professional workforce and how much we intend to work with other agencies to work together to ensure that people are kept safe.”
