Indian driver licenses

by Mark Rowe

Evolis, the French plastic card product company, has been selected to customise driver licenses in Uttar Pradesh in India.

The state government in Uttar Pradesh has started issuing smart card drivers’ licenses using the Primacy card printer. Over the coming months, almost 200 Evolis Primacy card printers will be deployed issuance of more than ten million cards – a project that will take five years to complete.

Evolis’ Pebble and Dualys printers have already enabled the decentralised customisation of millions of drivers’ licenses in 12 other Indian states over the past 10 years.

VM Gandhi, Managing Director of M-Tech Innovations – the pilot integration company – recommended the Primacy printer to the government for its very quality printing, robustness and simplicity of use.

This major project will be conducted with Rajpurohit Cardtec Ltd, distribution partner to Evolis in India. Evolis has recently announced its plan to take over Rajpurohit Cardtec Ltd as part of its vertical integration strategy, to take full advantage of the potential in the Indian market.
