Data protection legal guide

by Mark Rowe

The UK data protection regulator the ICO has brought out a 77-page document, ‘An Introduction to the Data Protection Bill’. The Information Commissioner’s Office says it’s intended as an introduction to the content and structure of the Data Protection Bill for those already familiar with data protection law and the GDPR (the General Data Protection Regulation, that is due to come into force in May, replacing the 1998 Data Protection Act). The ICO says their new document seeks to help you navigate your way around the Bill; and that the ICO intend to produce detailed guidance once the Bill has been enacted. As the regulators say, the Bill can appear to be a complex piece of legislation as it brings together four regimes of data protection law.
