Online buying advice

by Mark Rowe

Mobile e-commerce is rapidly becoming as traditional as tinsel and holly as more and more of us use our phones and tablets to help grab those last-minute gifts. But with the convenience comes increased risks as hackers and fraudsters take advantage of the Christmas rush. To help us avoid their attentions, an information security awareness consultancy has released seasonal advice based on McAfee’s “12 Scams of Christmas” at http://www.thesecurityco.com/news/expert-comment/welcome-to-hi-tech-christmas-shopping/

Lisa Spriggs of The Security Company says: “As smartphones and other mobile devices are now being used for online purchases and banking, it’s more important than ever to protect them and the information they contain. From malicious mobile apps to bogus gift cards and fake e-tailers, scammers use the frantic Christmas rush to cash in on unsuspecting consumers as they rush around preparing for the holiday and may not be paying full attention to security. We hope these easy-to-follow guidelines will help people avoid potential disaster this year.”
