NSI at IFSEC 2018

by Mark Rowe

The National Security Inspectorate (NSI) is holding its annual IFSEC International drinks reception on day one of IFSEC, Tuesday, June 19, at 4pm on stand F538.

This year the reception is to celebrate NSI’s 20th anniversary of independence from the Loss Prevention Council when it took responsibility for its own direction, as an inspectorate in the security sector, free of financial interest from shareholders, as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee.

NSI chief exec Richard Jenkins said: “We are delighted to be once again supporting IFSEC and FIREX as the most successful shows in our sector. Our drinks reception celebrates the significant 20-year milestone of NSI independence, demonstrating the confidence and high regard stakeholders and approved companies alike place in the integrity of NSI’s independent certification in the security and fire protection sectors, and the underlying message to customers that the industry is serious about quality and service.

“We look forward to welcoming our stakeholders, approved companies and invited guests to raise a glass to the next 20 years of NSI independence.”

At this year’s IFSEC at Excel London from June 19 to 21, NSI speakers will be covering best practice in CCTV systems, pitfalls to avoid with powered gates, continuing automation of alarm signalling, and fire risk assessment. A ‘Show Me How’ session on ‘User Focused Design: Update on NSI’s NCP 104 Code of Practice for CCTV Systems’ will run on the NSI stand at 11.30am on the Tuesday, and Wednesday, June 20.

A ‘Safe Automated Gate Design – How to Minimise your Risk’ session follows at 2pm on the Tuesday and Wednesday.

A presentation ‘Automating the Transfer of Alarms to Emergency Services: Maximising Public Benefits’, will see Tony Weeks, Head of Technical Services at NSI, share recent research findings from the NSI commissioned research by Perpetuity Research at 2.20pm on Wednesday, June 20 in the Future of Security Theatre.

Fire safety in your building: The most common and serious issues fire risk assessors are coming across right now is the subject for NSI’s Head of Field Operations (Systems), John Davidson will be covering at 12.05pm on June 20 in FIREX’s Expertise and Guidance Theatre, the show for fire safety protection, alongside IFSEC.

Now in its 20th year, the Engineers of Tomorrow Competition (pictured; 2016) is supported by NSI auditors judging the work of competing teams of apprentices, each installing security and fire safety systems against the clock under exam conditions. Richard Jenkins will be presenting some of the prizes on the Wednesday in the Keynote Theatre at 4pm.
