Travelodge lone worker finalist

by Amy

Connexion2’s Identicom lone worker device that has been providing Travelodge’s personnel with additional lone worker support has been short listed for the Risk Management Awards 2012. The awards are organised by the Continuity Insurance and Risk magazine in association with the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).  Travelodge was announced as a finalist in the Best Use Of Technology In Risk Management category. Now in their third year, the Risk Management Awards recognise those individuals and teams that have significantly added to the understanding and practice of risk management.  The winners will be announced at the Lancaster Hotel, London, in November.  The IIRSM is a professional membership body that provides recognition, information, support and enhancement for health and safety professionals and specialist members related to the health and safety field. Travelodge has rolled out Identicom devices throughout over 500 hotels to provide their staff members with additional support as there are occasions when they have to work alone on reception, behind the bar or dealing with a customer’s query, which may require them going to a customer’s room.  Connexion2’s Identicom has been supplied as part of a managed lone worker solution complete with a host of support services. Identicom looks like an ordinary identity badge but it allows a user who is feeling unsafe to request monitoring or specific assistance in line with a situation they are currently facing through the ability to discreetly open a live audio channel to an Alarm Receiving Centre – this is called a ‘Red Alert’. During such an alert, dedicated staff at the Alarm Receiving Centre can discreetly monitor what is happening, capture the audio evidence, and make an assessment as to the level of support required – involving the Police if necessary.  All audio captured through the device is recorded for future use including as admissible evidence in court if required. Craig Swallow, Managing Director of Connexion2 said:  “We are delighted that Travelodge’s use of the Identicom has resulted in the company being short listed for this prestigious award.   The award reflects the ability of an organisation to proactively use IT for delivering recognisable benefits in its management of risk – Identicom has certainly achieved this for Travelodge.”
