Wanted: a community safety winner

by Mark Rowe

Do you know someone who has gone out of their way to improve community safety in Poole?

Maybe they work with vulnerable victims or help to prevent crime or anti-social behaviour in their community. They could be a group or individual, a volunteer or someone employed to work in the community (provided they have gone beyond what is expected of them in their role).

The John Jay Shield is awarded every year by the Safer Poole Partnership in recognition of outstanding contributions to improving community safety in Poole, and the search for this year’s winner is now underway.

Sandie Marie was awarded the shield in 2012 in recognition of her work to support survivors of domestic abuse through the Poole Survivors’ Focus Group.

Cllr Judy Butt, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for Public Engagement and Participation and Chair of the Safer Poole Partnership Board, said: “Every year many community-minded individuals are put forward for this prestigious award. However we know there are many other people out there who also work tirelessly to improve their communities without recognition and we are keen to know who they are.

“Do you know someone who meets the criteria? If you do then please nominate them for this award so that their community can give them the recognition they so richly deserve.”
