T in the Park

by Mark Rowe

The Scottish music festival T in the Park saw Showsec at the start of a three-year contract with DF Concerts & Events to provide their services for an event now set for a move to Strathallan Castle, from Balado.

Colin Rodger, T in the Park’s Event Manager, said: “Showsec were an excellent addition to the team this year. They brought a huge level of expertise and employed some very successful new systems to help make this one of the best years of the event yet. We look forward to working with them to help the smooth transition of the festival to our new site at Strathallan Castle in 2015.”

Showsec Director Mark Logan, the company’s Head of Security for the event, said: “Where Balado’s journey finished, a new one for Showsec was just beginning. So we are delighted we were able to help give the venue the send-off it deserved. Our operation enabled the Company to display its depth of management which manifested itself in strong leadership on the ground and local area client liaison. We were able to develop best practices from other like events and integrate them into the T in the Park model so that they had the desired effect.

“Our relationship with Police Scotland flourished over the course of the festival with both parties intensively focused on reducing crime and promoting a safe, healthy and enjoyable environment for the festival’s enthusiastic patrons. Another way in which we improved the customer experience was through ingress changes to the campsite, utilising the space efficiently to engineer a controlled entrance. This worked very well and ensured that there was a much smoother passage.”

Logan headed a Showsec team that featured Regional Managers Scott Anderson (Scotland) and Alan Wallace (North) as well a number of Area Managers and Operations Executives who all had the responsibility directing their workforce.

Logan added: “It’s a measure of the progress we have made as a Company and the investment made in our management infrastructure that we put in place such a strong team when there was another major event taking place in Milton Keynes. This opportunity to work with DF Concerts & Events is an important step forward in the development of our Scotland office and this was the largest operation which we have put in place north of the border, so it was a big test for us.”

And Scott Anderson said: “The Showsec staff and supervisors have drawn fantastic praise from all quarters and I am extremely proud to have been part of such an excellent team performance. T in the Park was by far the biggest challenge we have faced in the Scotland and Borders region and this meant that the planning stages needed to be intensive. The build and break team led by Bob Javaheri set the tone right from the start by utilising the innovative processes and systems that Showsec have developed to bring an additional layer of integration with the event management team.

“The logistics function overseen by Michael Paul provided a sturdy platform for the main site co-ordinators whose enthusiasm, hard work and passion for their job was really inspiring.”
