Sky staff protected

by Mark Rowe

BSkyB have chosen a lone worker device for their front-line staff. The television company has bought 48 devices from the lone worker safety company Connexion2. The ‘Identicom’, styled like an ID badge, lets a worker to raise an alarm if experiencing verbal abuse or physical attack, or if taken ill suddenly. The updated 8 series of the product can capture verbal abuse through a two-way audio, and has GPS tracking to locate a lone worker with automatic detection if a worker trips or falls. The broadcaster had previously been using the 7 series range of ‘Identicom’ and upgraded.

Robert Gathergood, Head of Access Implementation at BSkyB said: “BSkyB takes the health and safety of its employees very seriously. After being provided with excellent customer service through the SoloProtect solution over the last three years, we have now taken the decision to update our devices.

“‘Identicom has helped our staff feel safer – it gives them confidence to know that they could quickly raise an alarm if their safety was ever compromised. We also like the added functionality of the new device, which can detect if a staff member trips or falls, and our team
find it discreet and easy to use.”

BSkyB bought the devices through the ‘SoloProtect.’ service. This includes SIM card and network use, 24/7 Alarm Receiving Centre monitoring and in-house, UK based, customer support.

The product firm adds that BSkyB originally started using the device in 2010 after engineers voted in favour of Identicom over other lone worker devices trialled. Visit www.Connexion2.com.
