Safe Steam Fair

by Mark Rowe

TSG Policing’s first major contract saw the company play a part in keeping the 600-acre, 200,000 capacity Great Dorset Steam Fair safe this month. Brought in by the event’s Operations Director, Julian Hubbuck, late in the planning process, TSG reports that it built a fast, fluid relationship with Dorset Police. The company claims that its skill set, developed by a former senior training officer for the Met, clearly distinguished its role from conventional show security.

Over the fair’s five days at Tarrant Hinton, near Blandford Forum, TSG worked on a number of operations with the local force, cutting the event’s impact on core policing off-site, to deliver what the contractor termed a viable, cost-efficient policing alternative.

Julian Hubbuck says: “I was looking for enhanced response cover and TSG provided a very competent, highly trained solution.”

TSG Director, David Boswell, says: “Members of the public were comforted by the fact that we were on the ground to act within the same capacity as the police. It was encouraging to see how quickly event security understood what we were about too, there was a fantastic relationship between all the agencies, which speaks volumes for TSG and where we sit as a specialist organisation in the industry.”

About TSG (Tactical Support Group)

It’s the new trading name for Definitive Event Policing. Tactical stems from the Greek word Taktike meaning ‘art of arrangement’. UK Police services in Surrey, Kent and Leicestershire also call their specialist divisions Tactical Support Group. TSG operatives are trained and equipped for functions traditionally the preserve of police officers.
