MITIE get on their bike

by Mark Rowe

A Piaggio MP3 300 LT Touring bike, to reduce guard response times around London, is a new tool for a security contract company.

The bike will be used by MITIE’s total security management business to service its mobile response customers in London. Riders will respond to alarm activations at clients’ buildings.

The time benefits at stake are considerable according to the FTSE 250 strategic outsourcing company. A recent test of a journey from Chigwell to central London took an hour by car but 40 minutes on the MP3. The bike is also 35 per cent more fuel-efficient, helping MITIE to meet its commitment to sustainability.

Danny Vant, director for mobile services, and responsible for the growth of response and void property services, said: “The introduction of the MP3 will really benefit our clients, as the bike can navigate through the traffic and ensure our officers get to their destination quickly. We currently have one bike in London but we plan to deploy these in other major cities such as Manchester and Birmingham in the near future.”

Riders don’t need a licence for the MP3 but the contractor gives training to drivers.
