Metal bench theft

by msecadm4921

A memorial metal bench, bought by a widower in memory of his wife, has been stolen for scrap, Nottinghamshire Police believe. The bench, which features a commemorative bronze plaque, was sited at the Folly Nook Lane junction with Great North Road (A638) in Ranskill. It was one of two benches reported to have been targeted by thieves on Thursday 28 June 2012.

Both benches are owned by Ranskill Parish Council. The commemorative bench was gifted to the village in 2008. The donor has since moved away. Temporary Neighbourhood Inspector Gill Proctor said: “These benches will cost in excess of £1,000 each to replace and the one bought as a tribute is simply priceless.

“These heartless thieves would be lucky to get a fraction of the cost for them in scrap value. We have liaised with scrap metal dealers in the district to be on the look out for the benches, and I urge people to do the same, specifically in relation to the bronze plaque.”
