Merano Residences

by Mark Rowe

The Merano Residences on Albert Embankment, designed by architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, offer panoramic views across London from SE1.

The door entry for developers St James fitted by the IT infrastructure company Dimension Data Advance Infrastructure at the 40 apartments was Comelit‘s ViP product, using standard Cat5 cabling. The door entry has been installed on the building’s secure network, which also hosts the IP network, WiFi network, access control, CCTV and home automation systems.

Being IP-based, this door entry system that offers audio and video has no distance limitations and can provide an unlimited number of users with simultaneous video and audio communications. It can integrate with other IP devices.

The main entrance comes with the 316 Sense audio/video entrance panel, integrated with a third-party access control reader. The entrance panel has a brushed stainless steel touch-sensitive surface with no buttons, integrated colour camera and LCD screen.

Each apartment is fitted with an Icona Manager, a full duplex, hands-free door entry monitor and system manager with a 4.3 inch 16:9 colour touchscreen display. Featuring sensitive touch capacitive technology, LED backlighting and swipe function – and finished with a gloss surface in transparent, scratch-resistant polycarbonate edged with a brushed stainless steel surround – the Icona Manager can be semi flush-mounted, wall-mounted or desk-based.

The ten penthouses also have a 1456G interface, which connects to a third-party home automation system.

Nick Stevens, Specifications Business Development Manager at Comelit, said: “We are delighted to have supplied our door entry panels and monitors to such an exclusive development. In fact, the name ‘Icona’ comes from the root ‘iconic’, and this applies in equal measures to the Merano development as it does to our door entry systems.”
