LA hotel upgrade

by Mark Rowe

A case study of the new CCTV at the Sunset Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, for round-the-clock surveillance.

As a business on the Sunset Strip, the hotel had a need for user-friendly cameras and recorders that allowed their staff to keep an eye on the premises at all times.

The hotel had outgrown a legacy analogue system. From an upgrade the hotel sought an interface for the video system that was easy for staff to learn. Brenda Elias, operations manager for the Sunset Plaza, said: “We wanted something that we could use from an operational standpoint and from a safety standpoint.”

Ms Elias turned to Constantin Paul Bunea, the founder and CEO of Darkcad Tec, who had been serving as installer for the hotel for ten years. He considered the options on the market: “I selected Hikvision cameras because the quality is very high, third party integration is easy, and the company provides excellent technical support.”

Darkcad Tec installed over 20 Hikvision IP cameras throughout the hotel, each for a specific function. The DS-2CD2332-I turret, with Hikvision’s patented EXIR infrared lighting, is being used in the parking garage, with image quality clear enough to make out car number plates. A 3 MP fisheye camera, the DS-2CD6332FWD-I, allows for a 360 degrees view of the main entrance. Cameras such as the DS-2CD2132F-I dome are being used at other entrances, where HD real-time video is essential.

Jeffrey He, president of Hikvision USA and Hikvision Canada, said:“The versatility and scalability of Hikvision products make them well-suited for a wide range of vertical markets. We are pleased to serve our customers in the hospitality industry as they seek to provide safe and enjoyable experiences for their guests.”
