Golf win

by Mark Rowe

G4S has been awarded a five-year contract to secure The Open, which in 2016 runs at Troon in south-west Scotland in July. That takes the security firm’s work with the golf event up to and including the 2020 Championship.

Managing Director of G4S Events, Eric Alexander, said: “We have consistently proven our ability to provide high quality and effective service for this prestigious international event for more than 40 years now. When weather forced the 2015 Championship to unexpectedly finish on a Monday – the first time since 1988 – we were able to respond quickly and put in place an effective service that worked because of our scale and expertise across our business.

“Our long-standing partnership with The R&A means we understand their needs and our track record proves we can be trusted to deliver in any circumstance, making G4S the clear choice to secure The Open.”

The contractor provides stewarding and customer services, ticket checks, securing players and VIP visitors, and round the clock protection for the greens and other key playing surfaces.

G4S adds that it will bring a custom-built team to each tournament with mixed skill sets to meet the requirements of the course. The company has previously deployed over 300 personnel to the event, including its Gurkha unit, featured in our October 2015 print issue.
