German football signing

by Mark Rowe

The International Centre for Sport Security (ICSS) and DFL Deutsche Fußball Liga have made a partnership agreement for cooperation and education across safety and security planning.

The agreement will see the DFL and ICSS work together on stadium management courses and security operating tools to help support leagues and competition holders in their delivery of safe, secure, sustainable and profitable venues.

Helmut Spahn, Executive Director of the ICSS, said: “By combining the experience and strength of the German Football League and the international expertise of the ICSS, this new agreement will enhance knowledge and best practice to develop special programmes that will be delivered to the international football community.

”From my experience in delivering major international sporting events, I know only too well the areas of operational and security excellence within the DFL and Bundesliga. By working together and sharing knowledge with other clubs, leagues and countries around the world, the ICSS and DFL can proactively contribute to the hosting of safer major international sporting events.”

And Andreas Rettig, Chief Operating Officer of the DFL, said: “The ICSS has developed over the past years a worldwide hub for international knowledge regarding safety and security matters in sport. On the other hand as one of the leading football leagues with the highest spectator average of the world we are happy to share match operation matters and stadium experiences of our experts with colleagues all over the world. We are sure that both sides will benefit from each other within this cooperation in the future.”

The ICSS adds that it works with the European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL), the Spanish and Italian Leagues – Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional and Lega Pro – and the Qatar Stars League (QSL).
