Former Gwent Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Ian Johnston has been appointed as Crimestoppers‘ Ambassador for Wales. In his police career he held a variety of roles within Gwent Police, including Head of CID, and was awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for distinguished service in 2003.
Ian became Vice President of the Police Superintendents’ Association of England and Wales in 2004 and was President from 2007 to 2010. He was elected as Police & Crime Commissioner in 2012, a role he stepped down from earlier this year. As a supporter of Crimestoppers during his career, Ian Johnston is well aware of the contribution made by the 0800 freephone crime reporting line in fighting crime. The new appointment will see him work with the charity’s Wales volunteer committee.
He said: “I am thrilled and privileged to have been appointed Crimestoppers’ Ambassador for Wales and will apply the same commitment that I carried for my position as Police and Crime Commissioner to this new role. I want to work closely with communities and organisations that share Crimestoppers’ vision to tackle crime, and build a safe environment for residents, local people and businesses.”
