Cricket Sunday

by Mark Rowe

A Hertfordshire community cricket day, sponsored by crime-reporting charity Crimestoppers and supported by Police and Crime Commissioner David Lloyd, is set for Sunday, August 25.

Organisers, who include officers and staff from Hertfordshire Constabulary, are now seeking players and supporters from across the county to take part in the family event, at Watford Town Cricket Club.

PC Irfan Ishaq, one of the event’s main organisers, said: “For the past four years the community team had reigned as winners; however I am pleased to say that last year the police team broke this pattern and took the winning trophy home. We hope for similar success this year!

“This is a great community event which brings police officers, Crimestoppers representatives and residents in the community together and I would really like to encourage anyone who is free on Sunday, August 25 to come along.

“It’s a great opportunity for residents to find out how the police, Crimestoppers and the Police and Crime Commissioner are working together for the benefit of the county. Whether a fan of cricket or not, there is plenty for everyone to enjoy.”

The match starts at 1pm on the Horseshoe Lane ground and runs until 6pm. Cash prizes will be awarded to players with the highest score in runs and wickets. Crimestoppers sponsor many of the awards, including ‘Man of the Match’.
