CCTV for hotel

by Mark Rowe

A London hotel, La Suite West has installed network CCTV, to provide a discreet, secure environment for staff and guests.

Formerly the Hyde Park Hotel, the recently remodelled hotel is the latest creation of the British designer, Anouska Hempel.

The installation, which was delivered within the budgetary constraints, comprises several types of high-specification Axis Communications network cameras with monitoring functions including HDTV-quality images, multi-view streaming and P-Iris. Meir Abutbul, director of La Suite West said: “I didn’t realise just how much I had in one system. There are many features and layers and the footage can be analysed in various different ways.”

The system, installed by Axis partner, Trident Systems UK, offers 24×7 remote access, real-time viewing, and the ability to e-mail images and remote monitoring via a smartphone or tablet. The CCTV meets safety and security requirements of the hotel, and has been used to monitor staff movements and ensure quality control. It has allowed hotel managers to have greater control and track operations.

Atul Rajput, regional director, Northern Europe, Axis Communications added: “We continue to work with large and small hotel chains across the globe, assisting them with the transition from legacy analogue CCTV systems, demonstrating the plethora of benefits with IP-based security systems and helping them strike the delicate balance between the need for effective security measures and the high expectations of their guests.

“Hoteliers are really starting to appreciate that IP video surveillance based on open platform standards, offers endless possibilities for integrating into third-party analytic applications that focus on improving business efficiency and performance.

“For example, IP cameras that have embedded people-counting analytics can allow hoteliers to measure hourly traffic levels and evaluate performance across the whole chain, which is particularly relevant to those hotels that offer public access to their bars, restaurants, shops or fitness centres.

“The Axis surveillance system has exceeded La Suite West’s needs. The hotel clearly understands security is paramount and now has a reliable, high-quality, advanced surveillance system that can be accessed and monitored 24×7 both on and off-site.

“The minimalist, modern design of the hotel dictated the need for a totally discreet and aesthetically-pleasing security system. Our M301x range of cameras was the ideal solution; with their innovative and unique design, they are specifically developed for recess mounting, mirroring the installation of ceiling spotlights and making them ideal for this type of installation.

“The ultra-discreet system provides the hotel with the control it needs to meet future security requirements that is notoriously difficult with analogue CCTV systems and allows staff to deliver best practice and provide a safe and secure environment to all hotel guests.”

Mr Abutbul added: “I am extremely impressed with the innovative system, not only for security, but also to monitor time management and for its use as a training tool to enable perfect service and housekeeping,” he concluded.
