Business Watch launch

by Mark Rowe

A scheme to protect businesses from crime has launched in County Durham. The ‘Business Watch’ initiative, on the lines of the residential Neighbourhood Watch scheme, will cover Tudhoe Business Park. PCSOs Katie Bartle and Melissa Lamb and newly appointed community liaison officer, Faye Callan, will be managing the project.

PCSO Bartle, also a community liaison officer, said: “The scheme is being introduced in Tudhoe Business Park because we have seen a number of buildings targeted there. The aim of the initiative is to reduce the chances of thieves operating in this location.

“We hope to improve communication between police and local businesses and plan to use our ‘Keep in the Know’ messaging system to help share details of any suspicious activity, inform local businesses of any crimes that have taken place in the area and also appeal for witnesses to any incident. So far, interest from local companies has been good with 17 organisations joining already. Signage advertising the scheme will be put up around the area. It has the added advantage of not only promoting the initiative to interested parties but also acting as a warning to would be criminals to stay away.”
