Beijing parade

by Mark Rowe

Beijing’s military parade of September 3 to mark the 70th anniversary of victory over Japan in the Second World War featured hundreds of pieces of new military equipment and about 12,000 troops. Such a significant day required public security; manpower from traffic control and armed police, required to ensure “zero threat, zero danger” before, during and after the parade. The Hangzhou-based security products manufacturer, Dahua Technology, reports that it was the only security surveillance provider.

Hundreds of HD security cameras were set on West Chang’an Avenue, west reviewing stand, west of Tian’anmen Square and related points. Dahua’s HD Bullet Camera and Network Positioning System was mainly in use on West Chang’an Avenue giving 360-degree monitoring.

The company’s Network Positioning System with its starlight series camera was also in use. It features up to 60fps (frames per second) at 720P or 30fps at 1080P resolution, allowing for the recording of scene details even where the intensity of illumination varies considerably, according to the product firm. The product comes with WDR image enhancement (Wide Dynamic Range), and triple video streams. Infra-red (IR) illuminators offer up to 200m visibility, it is claimed. The PTZ domes in use provided a panning range of 360 degrees endless, and a maximum speed up to 160 degrees per second. Visit www.dahuasecurity.com.
