Bank Holiday events in Yorkshire

by Mark Rowe

Over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend, the crowd management and stewarding contractor Showsec secured several multi-venue events in Yorkshire, such as the Tour de Yorkshire cycling. Pennine Events Ltd organised the Tour de France leg in Yorkshire in 2014, and have gone on to host a ‘Tour de Yorkshire’ each year since.

Showsec staff were on hand at the event on Saturday, April 29, covering the second stage of the race from Tadcaster to Harrogate. Besides the finish line in the spa town of Harrogate, Showsec managed the crowds at the ‘Spectator Fan Zone’ on the Stray nearby.

More than 100 staff from Showsec were needed for the Tour de Yorkshire, plus around 220 more for a simultaneous event in nearby Leeds. Leicester-based Showsec reports that it was able to draw staff from other areas to cover the events. The Live at Leeds Festival was also held on that Saturday across multiple venues. John McGivern, of Harrogate Borough Council said afterwards: “I’ve found working with Showsec to be a very easy and professional experience.”
